Contemplative Group

The contemplative group meets every 2nd and 4th Monday from 7:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Our group is implementing the four pillars of the contemplative life (based on the rule of St. Benedict):

1. silent prayer
2. lectio divina
3. praying the psalms
4. conscious work

We begin with 25 minutes of silent prayer and then the larger group divides into two sub-groups -- one working with praying the scripture (lectio divina) and the other a study on conscious work on oneself for the world.

All are welcome to "Come and See".

Development & Peace

The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace, a democratic movement for international solidarity, supports partners in the Third World in the pursuit of alternatives to unjust social, political and economic structures. It educates the Canadian population about the causes of impoverishment of peoples and mobilizes action for change. In the struggle for human dignity, Development and Peace associates with social change groups in the north and south. It supports women in their search for social and economic justice. Development and Peace, the official development organization of the Canadian Catholic church, is inspired by the value of the gospel, particularly the preferential option for the poor.

Locally in Kamloops D & P is helping out by selling Fair Trade "Just Coffee" This organically grown coffee is purchased from coffee co-ops in Mexico and Latin America. The co-ops increased profitability through the Fair Trade practices benefits their communities and the environment with long-term sustainability. This "Just Coffee" is available at Holy Family once a month through D & P volunteers.

Our Share Lent campaign will soon be starting; watch the church bulletin for details. For more information about Development and Peace, contact Paul Desaulniers at 374 3858.

The Legion of Mary

Since Holy Family Parish was formed in the early 80's, the LEGION of MARY has been a firm fixture here. There are nine active and about sixty auxiliary members involved. What is the LEGION of MARY, and what do we do at Holy Family?"

The object of the LEGION of MARY is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation, under ecclesiastical guidance in Mary's name and the Church's work of crushing the head of the serpent and advancing the reign of Christ."

We meet for 11/2 hrs. each week where we pray , discuss and are given specific Spiritual Works of Mercy to each member to perform for that week. We act on behalf of of our parish priest. Our works have included visitation of parishioners ,especially those in need or are ill and distribute Holy Communion when required; taking care of the spiritual needs of Catholic patrons in Care facilities such as the Ponderosa Lodge ; visiting the poor in places such as the New Life Mission ; C.C.D. instructors ; forming and participating in Cenacles of prayer including devotions each Thursday evening. We are also involved in the various ministries of the Church such as Eucharist ministers, readers, choir , serving at daily Mass.

We are lay Apostles. We have as our patroness the Blessed Virgin Mary. For further information please go to our Website at: www.legion-of-mary.ie/

If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
